A Clean And Healthy Future Plan For Frome ~ Climate Coalition Week Of Action

Monday 3rd October 2016:

Frome Community ~

Local wildlife photographer Simon King will be helping Frome to launch its clean and healthy future plan as part of the Climate Coalition’s Week of Action on Saturday 15th October 2016.

The day kicks off at 3.00 p.m. at Christ Church on Christchurch Street West, Frome, where children from Christchurch First School will sing songs about caring for the planet – MP David Warburton is coming along to listen. Tea, coffee, squash and cakes will be provided for donations.

Free compost champion training is also being provided at Trinity Hall from 10.00 a.m. til 4.00 p.m. for anyone with composting experience who would be keen to help households in Somerset to cut waste and boost soil fertility. For more information see: http://www.carymoor.org.uk/compostchampions.html

At 4.15 p.m., everyone is invited to gather outside the Cheese and Grain with Simon King and David Warburton to take a photo next to the solar panels and electric car club car.
Face-painting for children will be provided and at 4.30 p.m. Free children’s activities will be provided by Frome Scrapstore upstairs at the Cheese and Grain, while Mark Letcher and Anna Francis outline some ways that Frome can cut pollution and costs. David Warburton will also be on hand to answer questions around what he and others can do to support Frome in its ambitions. Both events will take place between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. in the C&G meeting rooms upstairs.

Resilience Officer Anna Francis said “On 21st September Frome Town Council voted unanimously to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2046, through a combination of energy efficiency measures and generation of renewable heat and power. This is a fantastic opportunity to improve air quality, reduce energy costs, create jobs and training – and ensure we can ‘keep the lights on’. The Council recognises this ambitious target cannot be met by Frome people alone and we are pleased to be making such early links to Westminster and Churches.”
