Warminster Play Areas Update

Tuesday 27th November 2018:

 Queensway Park, Warminster.

Warminster Town Council is set to proceed with taking on the maintenance of eight play areas in Warminster currently run by Wiltshire Council.

Warminster Town Councillors voted unanimously to negotiate a lease arrangement with Wiltshire Council which would allow the Town Council to look after the play areas, cut the grass, empty the bins etc and repair any broken equipment.

Councillor Denis Brett, Chairman of the Town Council’s Devolved Services and Assets Committee, said: “Town Councillors are united in wishing to see the play areas maintained for the benefit of residents. Our community engagement exercise clearly showed the many benefits of play areas to the community. We will continue to pursue our long-term aim of having ownership of the play areas transferred over to Warminster Town Council.”

The eight play areas involved are situated at: Portway, Queensway, The Dene, Princess Gardens, The Beeches, Pound Street, Fore Street Play and Heathlands.

Another play area, in Victoria Fields, is subject to separate negotiations as it is currently owned by a developer who may transfer it to either Wiltshire Council or the Town Council.
